BAY COUNTY, FL – Several complaints have been received about a wave of Jury Duty scams in Bay County.
The scam begins with a phone call to the victim informing them they have missed jury duty and now a warrant has been issued for them to be arrested. The victim is sent an email with a copy of the fraudulent warrant attached. The scammer assures the victim they can avoid arrest by paying a fee of thousands of dollars.
Law enforcement will never call anyone to inform them they have a warrant. Law enforcement will never send an email with the warrant attached. And law enforcement will never encourage anyone to pay a fee to avoid arrest.
If you receive a phone call about missing jury duty or having a warrant, please hang up. Call the Bay County Sheriff’s Office at 850-747-4700 and let us check it out. Fraud investigators at the BCSO will help you any way they can. If you have been victimized by a scammer, please call local law enforcement right away.
A healthy Bay County requires great community news.
