Two Arrested After Early Morning Attack in Cedar Grove
PANAMA CITY, FL - On January 02, 2025 Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford announced the arrest of two men after deputies responded to an early morning report of an altercation in Cedar Grove. Deputies discovered an adult male victim covered in blood from a large cut on his hand.
The victim stated he had been at a residence in Cedar Grove when another man attacked him with a machete, striking him in the hand. The victim was taken to a local hospital and was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening. An investigator with the BCSO Criminal Investigations Division was called to the scene of the attack.
Contact was made with several people on the property. Samuel Brackins, age 59, of Panama City, was identified as the potential suspect. Brackins matched the description of the suspect and appeared to have blood on his clothing. Samuel was detained. He admitted to being in an altercation with the victim and was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. A search warrant was conducted on the residence. During the search evidence was recovered that supported the victim’s account of the crime and witness statements.
Also arrested at the residence was Robert Funderburk, age 30, of Panama City. He was found to be in possession of methamphetamine.
Brackins was charged with Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon and Possession of Methamphetamine. Funderburk was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine.
