The Place Downtown: A Local Favorite in Panama City

PANAMA CITY, FL – For nearly three decades, The Place Downtown has been a cherished spot in downtown Panama City, known as the local’s spot where residents come to meet, eat, drink, and unwind for lunch or dinner. Established in 1994 as The Place on Grace, it began as a small, intimate gathering place on Grace Street. The owners quickly built a loyal following of friends and locals who shared their love for the bar’s welcoming atmosphere.

In 2015, the establishment was taken over by Rob and Kim Stiegler, former owners of the Lynn Haven Yacht Club, who rebranded the popular establishment as The Place Downtown on Harrison Avenue. With its new identity, The Place Downtown became a beloved sports bar offering both great food and a welcoming, homey vibe. It’s a place where you can watch the game with friends, enjoy some eats, and relax in a familiar, friendly environment.

In 2018, the establishment faced a significant challenge when Hurricane Michael caused major damage to the front of the restaurant. But closing its doors was never an option. The Stieglers were committed to their loyal customer base, and they quickly began the restoration process. Despite the setbacks, the community’s support remained steadfast, and The Place Downtown emerged stronger than ever.

Now, with a newly renovated front and a menu full of an assortment of delicious comfort food, The Place Downtown is open seven days a week during football season, continuing to be a local favorite. Guests can enjoy weekly specials and a lively atmosphere, with a focus on good food and great company.
