Ukulele Orchestra of St. Andrews: Community Music, Scholarships, and Performances
BAY COUNTY, FL - Organized in 2013, the Ukulele Orchestra of St. Andrews (UOSA) evolved into a 501(c) 3 charitable organization supporting music and the arts in Bay County. The musicians come from many different backgrounds and professions, and most are very hip retired folks whose mission is to not only have fun, but also support the community by performing at various venues and for many organizations.
100% of monies coming in for performances go right back into the community. In fact, they established a music and arts memorial scholarship at Gulf Coast State College and have donated over $17,000.00 in grants to more than a dozen local schools. If you or your organization would benefit from their grant program, please contact UOSA.
The ukulele has a rich history that began in the 1870’s when Portuguese immigrants brought the instrument to the Hawaiian Islands. As an orchestra though, UOSA plays more than just ukuleles! There are varied instruments to be enjoyed, such as guitars, drums, percussion, flute, dobro and harmonica! You can also hear some very talented vocalists with a repertoire of favorites from all genres, encompassing favorite tunes from the ‘50’s to the present.
You can be sure to find them every third Wednesday from 6-8pm at Mosey’s Downtown, beginning February 2025. Other popular venues are Little Village in St. Andrews and House of Henry on Harrison Ave.
Please visit their website: www.standrewsukes.org or follow them on Facebook at Facebook.com/standrewsukes to see photos and learn even more about them and where they will be next! If you represent an organization that would like to engage with them for a performance, please let them know via email: Strum@standrewsuke.org
