Opinion: DeSantis Takes Bold Stand on Trump Immigration Policy While Florida GOP Leaders Push Back
TALLAHASSEE, FL - Yesterday, Governor Ron DeSantis issued a proclamation/executive order calling for a special legislative session in Tallahassee from January 27 to January 31, 2025. The session will focus on creating legislation to support President Trump’s new immigration policy. This legislation aims to prepare Florida to assist the new administration in performing the federal government’s constitutional duty to prevent mass illegal entry of foreign individuals, address the ongoing influx, and deport non-citizens who have exploited the lax and unconstitutional policies of the Biden administration. These policies have allegedly allowed and encouraged an invasion-level influx, which has purportedly reached 10.5 million individuals entering the United States since 2021.

Bob White, a 2018 candidate for Florida Governor and the current Chairman of the Republican Liberty Caucus in Florida, has issued the following statement to the Republican Liberty Caucus:
"Governor Ron DeSantis has called for immediate action to protect Florida from the illegal invasion that is threatening our state's safety, economy, and sovereignty. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Gov. DeSantis has proposed a special session to provide the necessary resources for Florida to support President Trump's mandate to STOP illegal immigration. Unfortunately, the so-called 'Republican' leaders in the Florida Legislature, House Speaker Perez and Senate President Albritton, have declared Gov. DeSantis' efforts 'premature.'"Instead of standing with our Governor and President-elect Trump, they are BLOCKING immediate action on immigration, hurricane recovery, and other critical issues."
I will be calling these offices, today, to encourage our elected officials to develop some common sense. I invite readers to do the same.
