by Janet Pattison

BAY COUNTY, FL — Congressman Neal Dunn, M.D. (Florida-02) returned to Bay County this week for a series of events aimed at supporting students and engaging with community leaders on local priorities.
One of the key highlights of Congressman Dunn’s visit is the upcoming United States Military Service Academy Day, which was held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Gulf Coast State College. The event was specifically designed for high school and eighth grade students interested in pursuing a higher education at one of the nation’s prestigious service academies. Parents were encouraged to attend alongside their children to learn more about the unique opportunities available.
Representatives from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, as well as the Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, and Naval Academies, were present. Attendees had the chance to speak directly with current Cadets, Midshipmen, ROTC staff, and parents of academy students. The sessions covered the academy nomination process, helping students understand the steps needed to apply. Dr. Dunn emphasized the value of this opportunity, noting that it offers students a comprehensive view of these outstanding institutions and potential career paths in service to the nation.
While outside, Bay County Democrats held a rally on and around the campus protesting cuts “to our military and the Department of Veterans Affairs.”
In addition to his focus on education, Congressman Dunn also took time to meet with key Panama City Beach government officials. His discussions with Mayor Tettemer, Panama City Beach Police Chief Talamantez, and other leaders centered on pressing local issues, including affordable housing, infrastructure improvements, and ensuring community safety, particularly as the area hosts spring break season.
Wrapping up his visit on a celebratory note, Congressman Dunn congratulated McGuire’s Irish Pub on the successful completion of their new location in Panama City Beach—just in time for St. Patrick’s Day. He wished the McGuire family continued success and extended festive greetings to all celebrating the holiday.
