PANAMA CITY BEACH, FL – Those involved in Panama City Beach’s local music scene have likely heard of Kickstand Jenny, an alternative rock band that blends musical styles like grunge, punk, and country in their live performances. The band released their first album, “Between the Lies,” in 2023, and will be releasing new music soon, with their next single coming out in April.
Kickstand Jenny is comprised of vocalist Scott Foster Harris, guitarist Preston Morelock, and bassist Chris McComas. The band is based in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida but frequently plays in Panama City Beach.
Morelock, who founded the band alongside Harris, is a self-taught guitarist who got into music at an early age.
“My mom had a boyfriend who played all kinds of guitars and he caught on that I was interested,” Morelock said. “One day, he put on ‘Eruption’ by Van Halen, and I was blown away."
Morelock moved to Florida in 2010 and originally played in a cover band named Bottoms Up. At a songwriting festival, he met the producer Chas Stanford, who he began working with. Stanford would go on to produce “Between the Lies.” Apart from Van Halen, Morelock cites classic rock bands like Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, and Journey as influences.
Outside of music, Morelock enjoys spending time with his family and going to the beach, which he lives close to. He also owns a few businesses that he manages.
Harris was originally from Texas and worked as a professional bull rider until he suffered an injury that caused him to step back from the work. During his recovery, he purchased a guitar and began playing music. He formed the band Zen Rizing, then became the frontman of L.A. Guns. Harris later worked on some demos with Morelock. The two liked working with each other so much that they decided to start a band together, and Kickstand Jenny was born.
Chris McComas is a self-taught musician from Fort Walton Beach, Florida who started his professional career in music in 2000. He was initially influenced to make music by glam metal bands such as Mӧtley Crüe.
Their album, “Between the Lies,” was produced after they formed a deal with Spectra Music Group in 2022. It featured collaborations with other musicians such as Mark Slaughter, the lead vocalist and founder of the hard rock band Slaughter, and Jim Riley, the drummer of Rascal Flatts. The track “Solo” featuring Mark Slaughter was particularly successful, being played on various radio stations.
“Between the Lies” was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, with the help of Chas Stanford. The album serves partly as a tribute to the resilience of musicians working through the COVID-19 pandemic and suffering from the “death of live music.”
Since its founding, Kickstand Jenny has shared stages with famous rock artists such as Slaughter, L.A. Guns, Living Colour, Sebastian Bach, and Lit.
When asked about his favorite part of performing live, Morelock answered, “People singing the song you wrote back to you.”
New music from Kickstand Jenny is on the way, with a new single coming out this April and 13 new songs scheduled to come out in the next year and a half.  https://kickstandjenny.com
