Historical Society of Bay County Hosts Cynthia Barnett for Seashells Talk

BAY COUNTY, FL - The Historical Society of Bay County is pleased to bring Cynthia Barnett, award-winning environmental journalist and author to Bay County to present a program entitled, “Seashells and The Sound of the Ocean” on May 27, 2025. Ms. Barnett has covered water and climate change stories all over the world. This highly acclaimed speaker comes to us through the Speakers Bureau of Florida Humanities. 
Born in Fort Myers, Florida, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and a master’s degree in American History with a specialization in Environmental History from the University of Florida. She is the author of 4 books and innumerable articles. Her latest book, Sound of the Sea: Seashells and the Fate of the Oceans, was named one of the top science books of the year 2021 by NPR’s Science Friday. 
This program, co-sponsored by Gulf Coast Shell Club will be the last in HSBC’s 24/25 program series. It will be held in the Community Room of the Bay County Library on W. 11th Street and begin at 6 PM. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. Please note that the presentation is on a TUESDAY due to Memorial Day.
