Bay County Waste Amnesty Days Draw Over 1,300 Participants, Collect Nearly 570 Tons of Waste
BAY COUNTY, FL – (Apr 29, 2025) Bay County’s Spring 2025 Waste Amnesty Days event, held on April 25 and 26 at the Steelfield Landfill, culminated with some 1,394 residents participating in the two-day cleanup effort. The event, designed to give residents a no-cost way to dispose of household waste and hazardous materials, resulted in the collection of more than 568 tons of waste.
Collections included:“This event makes a major impact twice a year,” said Solid Waste Division Manager Cory Parsons. “It allows residents to clean up safely and responsibly and ensures hazardous materials don’t end up harming our environment.”
- 495.39 tons of trash
- 72.09 tons of yard debris
- 1,485 tires
- 1 vessel
- 290 white goods (74 refrigerant, 216 non-refrigerant)
- 1,600 fluorescent tubes
- 545 batteries (145 large, 400 small)
- 1 cubic yard box of aerosol containers
- 2,805 gallons of paint
- 330 gallons of flammable bulk solvents
- 200 gallons of waste oil
- 110 gallons of antifreeze
- 16 drums (55-gallon) of household chemicals
Waste Amnesty Days are held each spring and fall as a public service to Bay County residents, with proof of residency required. Commercial waste and non-residential vehicles are not eligible for the program.
