PANAMA CITY, FL - Emma Maddux, K-Kids Club President, in the fourth grade at Walsingham Academy, gave a lively talk to about 50 Kiwanis Club members in May. With Emma’s leadership, the club accomplished many activities during this school year to raise funds and to help others.

Some examples are:
·They gave gift cards to students who were “caught being kind.”
·For Valentine’s Day, they sold Air Heads candy for $1.
·For Christmas, they sold for $1 the privilege to wear a hat to school for one day. (Students are not normally allowed to wear a hat to school.)
·They gave a teacher appreciation gift to every teacher at the school.
·They created pamphlets for future K-Kids and put them on their K-Kids bulletin board, which is in a “high-traffic area” out near where the car riders come to school and get picked up.
·For Easter, they “planted” jelly beans in the dirt in their raised garden, for pre-K and kindergarten children, that “magically” grew into lollipops.
·For Earth Day, they made a turtle out of trash by recycling water bottles, painting them and shaping them into a turtle.
·They collected 1,010 toiletry items that were donated to a shelter.
·They held a canned food drive for a shelter.
Part of the reason the club accomplishes a lot each year is that they have the help of the school Advisor, Mary Lang, and the Kiwanis Advisor, Todd Brister.
When asked what her favorite class is, Emma said she loves Reading. She especially loves to read to the younger kids in lower grades at her school.
Emma was accompanied by her proud father, Jason Maddux. Kiwanis Club members are also all proud to know her for accomplishing so much at such a young age!
