Inmate Bites Sergeant at Bay County Jail

by Bay County Sheriff's Office

BAY COUNTY, FL – On July 15th, Sheriff Tommy Ford announced that additional charges have been placed on a Bay County Jail inmate after he refused to re-enter a dorm in which he was being housed. Instead, he resisted and finally bit the Sergeant who was escorting him.
On July 14, 2025, at about 10:30 AM, inmate Jamuti Harvis was being transported back into C dorm at the Jail. As the Sergeant tried to place Harvis in the dorm, he began arguing and refusing to go back into the dorm. The Sergeant attempted again, and Harvis grabbed onto the bars and refused to let go. When the Sergeant attempted to pull Harvis off the bars, he bit the Sergeant on his left forearm.
The bite lacerated the forearm so deeply, the outline of each tooth into the flesh was visible. Harvis was secured in the dorm, and the Sergeant was seen by medical personnel and then sent to a local hospital for additional treatment.
Harvis now faces an additional charge of Aggravated Battery on an Officer, firefighter, or EMT.
