Are You A Recipient Of A Purple Heart? Please Join Us On Purple Heart Day!

PARKER, FL - Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8205 in Parker, Florida, is inviting recipients of a Purple Heart Medal, in Bay County, FL, to a reception in their honor on Purple Heart Day, August 7th, at 2 pm.
Purple Heart Day is observed annually on August 7th to honor and remember US military personnel who were wounded or killed in action while serving their country. It commemorates the sacrifices made by these brave individuals.
The Purple Heart is considered to be America’s first military decoration and the second oldest in the world. The precursor, the Badge of Military Merit, was established in 1782 for non-commissioned officers and soldiers of the Continental Army by George Washington. The Badge of Military Merit was reestablished in 1917 as the Purple Heart and the recipient is entitled to the award in the name of the President of the United States, if he or she is a member of the Armed Forces of the United States who, while serving with one of the U.S. Armed Services, was wounded or killed.
It is estimated that there have been 1.8 million recipients of this award, according to the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor.
There will be light refreshments for the Purple Heart recipient and family or guest. Please RSVP to Karen Custer at 850-247-1975.
