Making Progress Towards Putting The “A” Back In Bay

July 30, 2025

BAY COUNTY, FL - Congratulations to Superintendent McQueen, Principal Charlotte Blue and all of the teachers and staff at Oscar Patterson Academy whose Florida Department of Education School Grade made an incredible improvement in one year from an "F" to a "B" (3 grades!)  This took a tremendous amount of work and dedication from teachers, staff, parents, children and members of the community who came forward to volunteer to help.
Also with outstanding improvement was Bay Virtual Instruction Program (District Provided) whose grade raised from a "C" to an "A" (2 grades)
Other great efforts came from everyone at:
A. Crawford Mosley High School raised from a "B" to an "A"
Bay Haven Charter Middle School raised from a "B" to an "A"
Merriam Cherry Street Elementary raised from a "C" to a "B"
Bay High School raised from a "C" to a "B"
Cedar Grove Elementary raised from a "D" to a "C"
Eleven schools maintained last year's "A" grade:
Bay Virtual Franchise, Deane Bozeman School, Hutchison Beach Elementary School, North Bay Haven Career Academy, North Bay Haven Charter Academy Elementary School, North Bay Haven Charter Academy Middle School, Patronis Elementary School, Rising Leaders Academy, Surfside Middle School, Tyndall Academy and University Academy SABL Inc.
Six schools maintained last year's "B" grade:
Bay Haven Charter Academy, J R Arnold High School, Lynn Haven Elementary School, Palm Bay Elementary School, Southport Elementary School and West Bay Elementary School.

Nine schools maintained last year's "C" grade:
Deer Point Elementary School, Hiland Park Elementary School, Jinks Middle School, Lucille Moore Elementary School, Merritt Brown Middle School, Northside Elementary School, Parker Elementary School, Rutherford High School and Tommy Smith Elementary School.

Seven schools did not improve or maintain last year's grade:
Breakfast Point Academy and Callaway Elementary School each changed from "A" to "B".
A Gary Walsingham Academy, Mowat Middle School, Palm Bay Preparatory Academy 6-12 and Waller Elementary School changed from "B" to "C"
Amikids Maritime Academy changed from "A" to "C"

Overall, out of forty schools in the Bay County School District, the overall grade of seven schools improved, twenty-fix (26) maintained last year's grade and seven schools lost some of their progress.  Bay District Schools received a "B" grade overall.
Stephanie Gall, a former Superintendent of Bay District Schools, said "I am so proud of the progress they have made.  For the first time in seventeen (17) years, there were no schools with a grade of "D" or "F" and the school district was only two points away from an "A" grade."
Bay District Schools is still working hard to "Put the "A" Back in Bay."
