Shark Sitings at Bay County and Walton County Beaches
BAY COUNTY, FL - The Bay County Sheriff’s Office posted double red flags on the beaches of Bay County today, Friday, June 7, 2024. This is due to several reported shark attacks =in the waters off nearby Walton County.
Sheriff Tommy Ford has been in conversation with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and has learned that bait fish are schooling near the shore at this time of year which may have been a contributing factor in the attacks.
In coordination with Bay County and Panama City Beach officials, today the BCSO will post single red flags and purple flags on the beaches of Bay County. Purple flags indicate the presence of dangerous marine life and single red flags indicate high hazard conditions.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to use utmost caution when deciding to enter the water or permitting children to enter the Gulf this weekend.
