Bay District Schools Preparing for the Storm

by Sharon Michalik, Bay District Schools

PANAMA. CITY, FL — Bay District Schools is actively preparing for the potential impacts of the approaching storm, working closely with local emergency management officials and trusted meteorologists to ensure the safety of students, staff, and families.
As a precautionary measure, all Bay District Schools will be closed on Thursday, September 26, 2024.
What We’re Doing Now: Bay District Schools has been in constant communication with local experts to monitor the storm’s path and potential impact. We are taking every step necessary to safeguard our school facilities and ensure we are prepared for any outcome. Maintenance teams are securing campuses, and school administrators are reviewing shelter plans in case our schools are needed to serve the community.
Thursday School Closure: Due to the potential storm threat, all Bay District Schools will be closed on Thursday, September 26. This decision was made out of an abundance of caution to prioritize the safety of our students, staff, and their families.
In addition, after-school sporting events for both Wednesday and Thursday have been canceled to allow time for families to prepare. While schools will remain open for normal operations on Wednesday, we are continuing to monitor the storm closely and will adjust plans as necessary.
We anticipate reopening schools on Friday, pending any further updates on weather conditions.
Communication and Updates: Families and staff are encouraged to stay informed through official channels, including Everbridge alerts, social media updates, and local news. It is critical that parents and guardians ensure their contact information is up to date in the Parent Portal so they receive important notifications promptly.
“We are taking every step to ensure the safety of our community,” said Superintendent Mark McQueen. “We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we navigate these uncertain conditions. Our priority is to keep everyone safe while minimizing disruption, and we will continue to provide updates as the situation develops.”
