Bay County Audubon 2024 Christmas Bird Count

BAY COUNTY FL - Every year, rain or shine, over 70,000 bird enthusiasts across the Western Hemisphere set out on a collective mission to spot as many birds as possible as part of the Christmas Bird Count (CBC). Their ages, experience levels, and stories may differ, but they’re all united by a shared purpose: to support bird conservation. And the best part? You can be a part of this century-old community science project!

The CBC is more than a seasonal event—it’s a cornerstone of bird conservation, providing data crucial for monitoring long-term trends in bird populations across North America. Since its beginning in 1900, when it started as an alternative to the holiday tradition of hunting birds, the CBC has grown into the longest-running community science bird project in the country. Now, in its 125th year, it’s a testament to the power of citizen science.
