by Janet Pattison

BAY COUNTY, FL - On December 10th the Bay County Schools held a public hearing on the 2025-2026 dress code policy for K-12 students to ensure safety, hygiene, academic focus, and respectful grooming.
By encouraging neat and appropriate attire, the policy promotes personal hygiene, academic success, and a sense of community. Highlights include options for solid colors and school spirit wear, fostering individuality within structured guidelines.
With exceptions for special occasions, cultural beliefs, and unique needs, the policy ensures inclusivity and flexibility. Parents and students are invited to embrace this initiative, supporting a positive school culture where every student can thrive.
What to Wear
The policy, effective during school hours and events, emphasizes appropriately fitted attire, solid-colored clothing, and restrictions on disruptive or unsafe accessories.
Specific guidelines for tops, bottoms, shoes, and outerwear promote uniformity, while exceptions accommodate religious beliefs, medical needs, and special programs. Disciplinary measures for violations escalate from warnings to suspension for repeated offenses.
Prohibited Attire at all Schools
Each student is expected to dress appropriately in such a manner that is respectful to self and others. Dress and grooming shall be clean, healthy and safe, and shall not be permitted to disrupt the teaching and learning environment. Attire and accessories that are prohibited include, but are not limited to: • Clothing that exposes underwear or body parts • Fishnet tights • Garters • Halloween costumes or anything perceived as a dress up costume • Sleepwear, pajamas, or other bedroom clothes • Beach wear or bathing suits • Visible undergarments including camisole tops or undershirts • Animal tails • Any clothing or accessory item that causes a disruption to the learning environment
Parents and students are encouraged to review the policy to ensure compliance and avoid disruptions to the learning environment.
