Bay County Invites Public Input at Majette Park Master Plan Workshop on Jan. 16
PANAMA CITY, FL – The public is invited to join Bay County Parks and Recreation for a workshop at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16 about the Majette Park Master Plan
The master plan will guide the future of Majette Park, and Bay County is seeking input from park users and those who live near the park in creating that plan. The park is located at 5304 Majette Tower Road. The park property was used in the past as a golf course and is currently being used as a community building, open space, walking trails and a disk golf course.
Key components of the master plan will address:
· Maintaining and improving the area as a passive recreational facility.
· Developing recreational opportunities that complement the existing community building, expanding and improving walking trails, biking and cross-country running opportunities.
· Adding amenities sought by the surrounding residents and park users.
· Improving the open space features of the park
The master plan will include both short- and long-term improvements and aid the county in quickly addressing and updating the improvements outlined in the plan as funding becomes available.
In developing the master plan, many factors and views will be considered including:
· Historic use of the property;
· Accessibility;
· Health and fitness opportunities;
· The growth of the surrounding area;
· Maintenance needs;
· Role of Majette Park in relation to the adjacent H.G. Harder's Recreational Complex;
· Stormwater management and environmental impacts;
· Sustainability;
· Transportation issues;
· Public participation.
The input of residents, park users and potential park users will drive the master planning process. Participation opportunities include attending the public workshop and providing feedback or offering comments and thoughts directly to the Bay County Parks and Recreation Department.
A healthy Bay County requires great community news.
