PANAMA CITY, FL - The Swinging Squares Square Dance Club of Panama City invites dancers from across the country to join their 53rd Anniversary Blue and White Ball on April 5, 2025. The event will be held at the Grand Square Hall Panama City (GSHPC), located at 1105 Bob Little Road, home to the Emerald Coast’s largest all-wooden dance floor.
GSHPC is known for its family-friendly, alcohol and smoke-free environment with plenty of free parking. It’s a proud member of the Bay County Chamber of Commerce.
This year’s event will feature Sandy Stugis as the Cuer for Round Dancing and Darryl McMillan as the Caller for Square Dancing. The full schedule includes a Rounds Workshop from 10-11 a.m., Advance Rounds from 11 a.m.- noon, Early Rounds at 1-1:30 p.m., and Squares and Rounds from 1:30-4 p.m. Admission is $12 per person.
Square dancing holds a special place in Florida’s culture. In 1986, the State of Florida officially recognized Square Dancing as the state’s dance, adopting the motto: “Dance in a Square, Make a Circle of Friends.”
Grand Square Hall, built in 1986 by PCSRDA, features a fully equipped kitchen, air conditioning, and excellent acoustics. Today, Swinging Squares is the only active Square Dance club left in Panama City.
GSHPC hosts over 250 dance events each year, welcoming dancers of all ages and skill levels. Four different clubs offer lessons and events, including the Panama City Social Dance Club (Monday nights), Slick Kickers Line Dance (Tuesdays and select Saturdays), and Country & Ballroom Fusion lessons (Thursday nights) led by world champion Tammy Jankowski.
Swinging Squares meets every Friday night, dancing Mainstream and Plus Square Dance. “Square dancing is a lot of fun, and anyone can do it,” says Kathie Kern, PCSRDA President. “If you can walk, you can square dance.”
